On Nov 22, section1 will release a collection of solo piano music. piano1 features new original compositions from Hand Habits, Laraaji, ML Buch, Youth Lagoon, Mark William Lewis, Kelly Moran + more.
piano1 is a record for slowing down, healing, seeking out calm wherever you can find it, and embracing it. Research has shown that music, especially with a slower tempo and minimal harmonious melodies, can help lower cortisol levels (the body’s primary stress hormone), reduce heart rate and blood pressure, release endorphins, and help promote a state of calm and relaxation, creating a more balanced and centered state of mind. With piano1, the hope was to create something to accommodate many levels of listening attention (active, passive, anywhere in between), while opening space to think.
The songs on piano1 highlight the beauty and healing power of piano music, straddling the lines of contemporary classical, experimental, and ambient. The compilation is as much about showcasing the artists involved as it is showcasing the piano as an instrument, and how different artists approach their creative relationship with it. Brian Eno’s famous quote ("as ignorable as it is interesting") was the guiding light while sourcing contributions.
